Taylor’s leads Robert Parker’s ranking

August 3, 2009

Renowned wine critic Robert Parker has elected Taylor’s as the world’s best winemakers after attributing the centenary company an average 97.8 points out of a hundred for its last five Vintage port wines.

Taylor’s was appraised for British Magazine “The Drinks Business’s Top 100 Fine Wine Power List”, which for the first time included Vintage Champagnes and Ports.

Competing brands are assessed by their ‘power’ in the marketplace, considering five different criteria: the level of trade they attract on the Liv-ex Fine Wine Exchange; average score from Robert Parker; average price; one year price performance; and weighted production (price multiplied by average production). The wine brands are ranked on their aggregate score across the five criteria.

Comprised on the list are premium wines such as Bordeaux, Bourgogne, Champagnes and Ports.

Regarding Taylor’s, Robert Parker sampled and evaluated last five Vintages from 2003, 2000, 1997, 1994, 1992. This gave an overall average of 97,8 points which Adrian Bridge, General Manager of Taylor’s, considered “an achievement in itself and a reason for pride, not just for Taylor’s but for Port wines and for Portugal”.
